Position Summary

As a Sales Associate in our retail garden centers, you are responsible for assisting customers in selecting their purchases, merchandising and working in all positions throughout the garden center when needed.  To thrive in this position, you’ll need 2-5 years of retail sales experience and have strong horticultural knowledge.  Your main duties include greeting customers, explain, recommend and help locate merchandise and to build and maintain displays.  This is a seasonal, part-time position.

Education and Experience

  Required

  • 2-5 years of retail sales experience

  Preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Duties

  • Greet customers and determine what each customer wants or needs.
  • Describe merchandise and explain use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires.
  • Compute sales prices, total purchases, and receive and process cash or credit payment.
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
  • Partner with co-workers to satisfy customer needs
  • Build and maintain displays and features
  • Represent all Dennis’ 7 Dees services knowledgably
  • Provide assistance with project sales
  • Maintain signage
  • Advise Department Lead of trends and frequently requested items
  • Perform any Garden Center job function as directed by store management including, but not limited to, sales and merchandising, cashiering, plant care, carry-outs and general Garden Center housekeeping
  • Adhere to uniform guidelines
  • Work safely
  • Understand and comply with all company policies
  • Regular attendance and punctual for scheduled shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds, regularly
  • Walk, bend, stoop and stand

Work Environment

  • The retail store is a mix of indoor and outdoor space; the majority of time will be spent outside.
